I love music. I'm always scouting for new songs, writing them on napkins, or in my cellpone... So I figured out that instead of doing a regular Things I Love Thursday I'd do a music special of the songs I'm loving these days.

1. Today - Joshua Radin My sister, who's getting married next April is looking for a song to dance to at her wedding. A friend of hers suggested this one, and I loved it. It makes me smile, even when I doubt she uses it.
2. Steady as she goes - The Raconteurs Never heard nothing from them until last week when I was wandering around You Tube searching for Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol vids and there was one with this song, luckily for me, the author posted the song name.
3. Electric Feel - MGMT I'm going to their concert in about two weeks!!!
4. Champagne Supernova - Oasis One of my all-time favorite songs. I love, love, love it so much.
5. Any Other World - Mika Very inspiring!
6. Lights Out - Santogold I had never really payed attention to this song until the other day and it's awesome. It makes me wanna dance.
7. Breathe me - Sia A little sad, but it's a good song to listen to when needed. 
8. La Vie en Rose - Edith Piaff Classic. I got obssesed with it since I saw Sabrina (starring Audrey Hepburn, not Melissa Joan Hart, thank you.) I like the Tony Benett version a lot too.
9. Monarch - Feist It just fills my heart with glee!
10. They can't take that away from me - Tony Bennett/Diana Krall This song has been sung by too many artists. I absolutely love this song. It makes me feel like a child again, having breakfast in my pijamas on a Sunday with my family. 
11. Pink - Aerosmith Can you believe I just discovered this song? Shame on me! I heard it on the radio on my way to school a few weeks ago and as soon as I arrived school I downloaded it
12. Hotel Roosevelt - Augustana Another all time favorite. This song's far too great.

I'm cutting it here, but believe me I could go on forever.

10 ways to fix a crappy day.

As spontaneous as life can be, there are days that we can just categorize away and tag them as "bright", "historical", or "lazy". Yesterday wore a huge "crappy" label for me. 

It wasn't one of those everything-happened-to-me-and-wa-wa-wa days, it was one of those days you're just tired, sick, and sad for no reason at all. One of those days you just need to cry, and cry and cry until all that, well, crap, that had perhaps gotten accumulated from the past days for silly things like not sleeping well, being too hard on yourself, or not eating properly, is washed away. 

And so I did. I cried for no reason at all until it all went away. Today I woke up feeling healthy, happy, energized and loving life.  But yesterday while I tried to figure this out I came with 10 ways to fix these crappy days.

1. Cry, cry , cry until you fall asleep or you burst up laughing.
2. Watch an old hollywood film. (Right now I'm loving Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn, who else?)
3. Create a mood/inspirational board, which is just a cork board or whatever full of things that inspire you make you happy, and little treasure you find around. 
4. Grab a pen and let your hand roam freely. Don't stop, don't read, just write.
5. Call a friend and talk about silly things, just goofy, silly stuff that make you both laugh.
6. If you have money to spare go buy yourself a leather jacket. ( I did yesterday)
7. Go for a run with a Happy Place Playlist.
8. If you live by the sea, go take a dip. Close your eyes and feel the sun and the salt. Let the water swing you gently.
9. Sing out loud & rather out of tune "La Vie en Rose" by Edith Piaff.
10. Doze off to Friends or Sex and the City, the ultimate lift-me-up sitcoms.

What do you do to fix these kinda days?

Fall/Winter 08

This are the somethings I need/would like to have this fall/winter season. It's getting colder every day and I'm hardly prepared for it. 

(Note: this are random things I want, not necessarily trends from the runways or anything)

1. A leather jacket. I spotted one the other day at the mall, and I'm so going back for it.
2. I come from a place that is horribly hot, so winter for us is so light. But now I'm living in a another, way colder city, so I need coats and peacotas. I want colorful ones. Making-a-statement ones.
3. Cardigans for everyday.
4. Tights. Patterened tights and colorful tights. 
5. Skirts, lots of skirts to wear with tights.
6. Black dresses and pink dresses.
7. A pair of black boots, a pair of b&w oxfords and a pair of color-shocking heels, like those hot pink ones.
8. Gloves! I love gloves. Scarves and lots os brooches to pin them on scarves. Also, very thin belts.
9. Lousy Shirts/blouses. Extra points if they have a tie/ribbon, a la Salvador Dalí.
10. An oversized clutch and a very classic handbag.
11. Lots of headwear, a red or fuscia knitted beret, and feathered headbands.

And that's it.

My quest for these items has already begun. What are you craving for this season?

Tales of Late September

Aaahh...autumn. I love autumn. It's the perfect balance between beginnings and endings. 

The year's almost over, leaves fall, only to bloom again in the spring.  

The chill drifts over, forcing us to find refugee in cozy and stylish coats. We can feel the year coming to an end. 

But at the same time Fall, is all about beginnings. It makes me feel like buying school supplies. 

It's such a childhood image, you know, greeting friends, sharing over-the-summer-adventures, making new friends...

Isn't fall wonderful? It just holds such a promise of new in its chilly air.

I'm shocked. I have been so World Wide Web deprived that I wasn't even  aware of Gossip Girl's re-commencement. OMFG.

I know, I know...again, it's been a month since I last posted here!

But hey, a lot has been going on. I am now in college, I live in another city, I've made new friends...you know.

Actually tomorrow it'll be an exact month since I left home. 

You may think I'm not really comitted to blogging, well I'm not a full-time blogger, I have school and stuff, besides I don't currently have internet in my new apartment, the internet company has taken forever to come and install it. (I'm stealing internet from my neighbor at the moment)...

and you know, I have many big plans for this blog, but patience is a virtue my lovelies!

My late night sandwich

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen...or should I say good morning?

It's almost 4 AM in the morning and I'm sitting here in my pajamas eating my late night sandwich after a "small" farewell party downstairs. My house is a MESS. But I kinda cleaned up a bit.
I had a great, great time. Oh and I cut my hair! Not as short as I wanted, but I did cut it a little bit, and I got a few bangs. I had been growing it out for so long! I needed something easier, something more...pressto? I mean, with my long hair I was most of the time using bobby pins and I don't know, the weather here doesn't help, but now with a more defined, new haircut it's easier.
One of my resolutions this semester is to pay more attention to my hair cut and my hair do. I always ended up with a messy bun or something. With a defined hair style it's just easier.

And I loved my outfit today. I wore a killer dress and killer shoes, loved it. I'll post photos!

Well, my sandwich's gone! I sort of made a point of writing as long as my sandwich lasted and now it's over, it's late and I have to finish packing tomorrow!

1. Packing up my room. I know, it should be a sad thing but it just feels too cinematographic, I mean, boxes, raining outside, music...

5. My room's wooden floor which I'm gonna miss so much. While laying on my belly over it with my laptop I'm realizing I never really payed that much attention to it. If you know what I mean. But I'm loving being on the floor instead of the bed.

When you try your best but you don't succed.

What a day! Seriously, I think The Universe is putting me on trial. But on the other hand it's been quite proving me that everything happens for a reason.

Today I've got the news that my solicitude for a scholarship/financial aid for college has been turned down. And well, I had always counted on it because it was highly likely that I'd get at least a 10% off my tuition fee every month. They said the graphic work and the essays I was requested to send were outstanding but that that my grades weren't that high, and I have a fairly good grade. I graduated with a 9.2 from High school, which I calculate would be something between a B+ and A-.

Yes, I'm quite sad indeed. I'm not pretty sure what's going to happen, my parents were always counting on it because almost always, students from other cities and who have to pay for rent etc., get at least a few percentages of financial aid. The expenses are big. And oh-how I hate this country some times.

But oh, well, just yesterday I said that if life gives you lemons make lemonade, I don't know exactly how in this situation, but I've been focusing on being positive all day long.
But I really am sad. I was and still am very excited about my career.

Hello there!

Hello, hello...
After over a month of absence I'm back to announce... a whole new period of absence.
I was leaving town for college tomorrow but then everything changed and I'm leaving on Monday. I start school on Wednesday.
I'm pretty excited about leaving so I was kinda upset, but hey, if life gives you lemons make lemonade, so I have more time to work on un-arranged matters.
So I have a busy week, plus, another busy, internet-less week ahead of me, alas, I don't think I'll be around here a lot. My intentions are, though, to dedicate a lot more time to blogging. I have many plans for this blog.

By now, I think it's time for you to know me...I think just a nomme de plume doesn't make a great connection with the readers.
Just so you know...
My real name is Emilia Igartua Vellatti, but you can call me Emy, Emily or Em... or by my nomme de plume.
I am mexican though my last names are the first spanish and the latter italian.
I am as you know, 18 years old an my birthday is on January the 12th.
I have just one sister, who's 9 years older than me. She's getting married to a French guy next April and moving to Paris. Lucky her, right?
Taking advantage of that I'm planning to go to Parsons Paris for 6 months during my career, and given that there's also Parsons New York, I want to go another 6 months there. And so, start my New York dream plans.
What is it with us bloggers with New York?

I have also mentioned before that I'm starting next week (gasp!) college, and I'm going into visual arts. I love art, I draw, I started painting again recently even though I don't do it much.
But my real knack, is doing collages. It sounds lame, but I'm really, really good at it. I'll post some pics later.
That's why my dream is to become a fashion magazine's creative director.

While art has been my passion during my whole life, there's another passion I discovered a few years ago while working on a homework. I love writing. And well, maybe this blog doesn't show it...but I'm not bad at it. Someday, I'm gonna write a fantasy novel, a non-fantasy novel, and write & illustrate several children's books.

I lost quite some weight due to an illness last month, and I'm not planning on regaining it anytime soon; I sometimes believe quite firmly that I was born in the wrong epoque. One of my all-time favorite movies is The Beauty and the Beast which I watched every single day when I was a child. My mom says it's my story because I read way too much when I was little and I have always dreamt of "something more than this provincial life". I wear contact lenses because I'm quite very blind. I have an obsession for fashion magazines, and I love music, so if you love music too that's a very good way to start a conversation with me. Also, recommendations are very, very welcome.

The name M.B. Whimsical stands for something. It was not picked up randomly. While I'm not giving out why M.B., I will tell you that Whimsical is one of my favorite English words because it represents a lot to me, a lot of my childhood and a lot of what I'm still am. It remembers me of how funny the world is and how some times life can be a fairytale (yes I'm cheesy, I know that).

I also think I grew up a lot this last year, and I think I will continue to this next one.
Oh and I love watching the same movies over and over again.
And did I ever mention my father looks like John Lennon? Especially when he was young and wore his hair longer.
