Happy (belated) Earth Day!

Everyday should be Earth Day..

Happy (Belated) Earth Day!

Sorry I have been a little busy!
But I have something for you:
Can you spell...
Recycle!

I sooo want this:)!

Even though we should take care of our Earth every day, yesterday was a perfect opportunity for doing something big. Or several small things. I made a point on saving water yesterday, not leaving plugged any electronic devices, driving at "considerable" speed (driving too fast produces more CO2 emissions), and not wasting food, paper, and other stuff.
But you know, one day a year isn't enough. Global warming is a fact, and we have to act against it.
Maybe at the moment can't do something huge but if we all do small things we can help!

Happy Bday Earth, we hope you have many, many, many, many more!

MBW 's news

I am officially on a quest to find a picture for my header. It's been like that for way too long.
Wish me luck.

It's been a busy week. And there's nothing I love more than a completely lazy Sunday when I'm tired and need to catch up on my sleep.
I spent the entire day in my pj's watching movies and surfing around blogs.
I know tomorrow I'll be complaining about not using my time for productive things. But I enjoyed it.

I am currently burning a CD to listen to while driving. I downloaded several Augustana's songs that I didn't yet had. Augustana is my favorite band ever. It's the perfect driving music. And I love driving.

iTC
is starting tomorrow and I'm now ready for it. I have decided my goals:
  1. Stop biting my nails so much.
  2. Stick to my diet. Use EFT whenever I have sugar cravings. Eat an apple instead!
  3. Organize my time/ catch up with school.
  4. Stop wasting so much time on the web.
  5. Work out.
  6. Enjoy every day, every breath, very, very much.
  7. Work on my art projects.
  8. Stop complaining, stressing and fretting about silly, little things, and other not so small, or silly things. Use a bracelet to change from hand to hand.
It's a lot, but I'm having a tight month, and they 're all connected so it's all right.

A girl suggested in iCiNG to hang paper cranes around the house to remind us about the iTC. I'm going to do that too!

Don't forget to sign for the newsletter!

Good luck with your goals everyone!

Fluorescent, neon glow-like opera. Wait, what?

I have a new type writer. Well, it's old. It was my sister's.
Very 90's. But I love it.
There's nothing more whimsical than a type writer. It's nostalgic, yet fashionable.
And very useful for the art projects I'm doing. I spent the whole afternoon getting used to it and wrote a little.

I found this the other day in a notebook and I typed it with it.

Ice cream...She just ran after and across the bridge getting soaked of operas and overtures. Photographs and boxes were hanging from the windows, slowly dangling to & fro -
French opera rang through the spaceless universe, high-pitched, black, splattered everywhere. Then everything became fluorescent neon glow-like.

Very, very weird. The thing is, I don't actually remember if I wrote it or I found it somewhere.
I think I did, because it's something I would write, and there are several words I like there, like operas, overtures, and neon.
Goodness, isn't it queer?

I've had a busy week, I'll write about what I've been doing later!
We've been having high school queen elections events and it's had us quite busy, but it's been a lot of fun.
Also, I've been able to catch up with some art.

I have a few things to write here, really, but I have lacked inspiration, I just have random scribbles in a notebook.
I think this Blog's been changing a little even when it's like a month old!
I'm trying to figure out the direction I want to take, but I guess life itself will guide me.

Oh and since it's Wednesday night...
  • I love Jackie Onassis (Jackie Kennedy). I've always loved her style, but today I watched a movie about her, and I'm head over heels! Not just for her classy and proper style, but for who she was. So whole and strong in every minute and aspect of her life. Well-mannered, and noble. I'm going to do some research on her...do I hear "role model"?
  • Wreck this journal.
I found about this a few minutes ago and I fell in love!
There's a big movement in Flickr, and it's all very inspiring.
This is the "official" site, and while the link will not direct you to their home, you have to read that introduction!
I've got plans for my moleskine.....
  • Expose yourself!
This Wreck this journal, and the note. I loved what the user wrote about when you're an artist you peel your skin off completely. It's true. Most of the time, I feel reluctant of showing any of my artwork because I feel so utterly exposed. It's like standing naked in front of a crowd, while they peel your skin off and ask un-answerable questions.
That happened to me today. A guy in my class grabbed my sketchbook, and when he saw my face he said: "Hey, if you're going to be an artist you have to be used to people watching and judging your art."
    He's right.

  • My new-old type writer.

  • Augustana's new EP (download "Sweet & Low" ASAP!)

  • My handwriting lately.

  • The following songs:
    Sweet & Low - Augustana
    Penny & me - Hanson (!!!)
    Say - John Mayer
    Love Song - Sara Bareilles
Consequence of sounds - Regina Spektor
    Wasteland - Augustana

Down the rabbit hole!

We're in the middle of a headband rush. And I'm loving it.
But who's responsible for it? (Besides from Blair Waldorf of course.)

I say, Dear Old Alice.
After all, she's one of the oldest images of a black-bow headband. And let's be honest, who doesn't think of her when you see a blond girl with a black headband down the street? (I personally love how a blond looks with black on her hair/head)

One of my best friends loves Alice in Wonderland and I got her that notebook for Christmas.
And I fell in love with that Betsey Johnson watch. And it's on it's way here!

You can go in a more low-key way of course. This is just some inspiration.

No need to fall into a rabbit hole to enter a Wonderland, right?
You can make your own.

Things I Love Thursday

Everybody's gonna love today, love today, love today!
And I quote...
"Holly: Is this Thursday?
Paul: I think so.
Holly: Thursday! It can't be! It's too gruesome!
Paul: Well, uh...what's so gruesome about Thursday?
Holly: Nothing. Except I never remember when it's coming up!"
-Breakfast at Tiffany's

Tomorrow's a busy, busy day, so I'm writing this tonight! Even though I really shouldn't I have been sleeping very late these days. Tomorrow I have francais, and then I have to study math, plus, some exercise, because I'm skipping pilates!

I can't believe it's Thursday already! But oh, well, what is we love about Thursdays?

Things I Love Thursday:

  1. Polyvore.
I'm obsessed lately. I've been wasting too much time in this site this week but I can't help it. It keeps my shopping demons at bay!

  2. Don't be afraid. You needn't slay the beast nor scale the entire mountain. That's not how it's done. You only need to move through today, emilia. Think of the distance you've already covered. Focus on your strengths. Let each new step remind you of your freedom. Let every breath you take remind you of your power. Seek out friends and guides; they're anxious to help. You're not alone. You're understood. This road has been walked before. Dance life's dance, just a few steps at a time, and in the wink of an eye you will wonder to yourself, "What beast, what mountain? Was I having a dream?

    Love you,
    The Universe

    This Note from the Universe.

  3. Re- decorating my room!
I love my room even more now it's more organized (well sort of) and less crammed with useless papers and stuff. I've put new things too and changed some others. Wanna see?

I hung pictures from magazines and I'm planning to hang some more and some photos. And The photos on the wall...I used to have my bureau full of photo frames, something I never really understood because, oh, how I hated them! So put them away and put the pictures on the wall. You can see my late grandpapa, my big sis when she was little (the cheeky girl in b&w), my other grandparents with the easter bunny, my friends and I in b&w above, my little cousin (who looks a lot like my grandpapa next to him!), my dad when he was young with a camera, my parents' wedding, and some other pics taken by my dad I found here and there.

Oh, and don't you love my director chair? I have two of them and I loooove them. I want to take them when I leave, but I picture myself carrying them in the airport and it makes me laugh. I'll figure it out, don't worry dear chairs!

  4. I love brand new black pens!

  5. Today I had a facial at a different place than I usually do. It was the best thing ever. It was so relaxing and way better than the other place. I did an effort not to fall asleep!
When it was over they gave me a face massage (I know!), a scalp massage, and in my neck and shoulders too. I really needed it!
I can't wait to go again!

  6. Some honourable mentions:
My sister's coming for the weekend! Bravo! ; yogurth, strawberry & apple smoothies for dinner ; a new, different, diet starting tomorrow (I'm sick of this one!!!) ; the prospect of a kinda relaxed weekend ; continuing with two forgotten paintings ; being productive!

That's all sweetpeas! It's late and I really need to sleep.
What are you loving this week?

Sweetdreams.

Random Highlights...

I know. It's Sunday again. Just as I said, it was going to be kinda hard to keep writing now black in classes, but besides that, my mom gave a series of conferences all week long in the afternoons, so she took my laptop along. I was completely sans computer all week-long, 'till yesterday. And yesterday, I confess, I was to lazy to actually write something.

It looks like I missed quite a few things...Weekly Resolutions on Monday, Things I Love Thursday and now it's Sunday I was meaning to write our regular Treasure Cove...but instead I'm just going to talk about some random things in my week, some highlights of these seven crazy days...

It was sort of a crazy week. Getting up early again, back to our usual routines, yoga, homework, student's council stuff (our busy season is just starting), but it was nice having my life back in order. Sort of.

I'm back with exercise, that's a good thing. But I've had terrible sweet-things craving all week long, help!

School's kinda relaxed for now, since we're starting a new period, so we won't have exams for a while, well for about a week or two, just a quizz or two. But we're going to have quite some student's council work, so I'll still be on my toes.

Friday was a little weird. I had a tiny fit of drama, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I arrived home from school, ate, and lied down watching Breakfast at Tiffany's. Settles me down right away. At night I was too tired to go out and I stayed in watching Juno and eating sushi with one of my best friends, neighbor, and future room-mate.

Truth: I haven't finished my spring cleaning yet. Shame on me! My room's been an awful mess for over a week, and even though I'm almost over, it's getting on my nerves. But I had never done such a deep-cleaning before, so I'm a little proud of myself.
I gathered everything I was throwing away in black plastic bags, but then realized I had mixed everything, so yesterday morning I spent a couple hours going through everything again to separate paper, plastics, etc., to see what can I take to the Recycling Center.
I had to work double but it's worth it. I'm becoming really, really afraid of Global Warming. I know there's not that much I can do for the moment, but I can help a little.

I finally watched Across the Universe with my dad. Yay!
Seriously, I've watched these movie about 5 times in the last two weeks. I love it way too much.
Thanks to my dad, of course, I've always been a huge Beatles fan, so I was thrilled when I heard about this movie, and I've actually waiting for it since last summer, and got to see in January. Since it isn't a big Hollywood movie, it wasn't displayed in cinemas here, except for one, but just for about 5 days! I went to see it, and it's now available in DVD so I've rented it a couple times.
But I just had to watch it with my dad, and yesterday I made him watch it with me.
I feel like you'll hear more about this movie from me soon.

Our yearbook is going to the printer tomorrow. Can't wait to see it. It's all really happening! High school's ending!
I've been friends with most of my friends for, like, forever, and we've been all like "Do you remember when we were in Kindergarten and we said, do you imagine when we're in High School?" and well, we're al now about to go our separate ways.
Now we have a short time left we've been doing a lot of fun things all together. Today we went to a water park, it's not that a big deal but I had never gone before, God knows why! It actually was pretty decent, clean and a lot of fun!
Oh, and I've been making the math and I'm leaving home in about 4 months. Gulp.

Talking about colleges, a while ago I was catching up with Miss Couturable and reading all about her college visits. It really makes me so jealous how someone is, well, lucky, to have the opportunity and the means to attend an Ivy League College. I'm a firm believer that you can do and achieve anything you want in your life, and that certainly implies working very hard. And I'm by no means implying Noel hasn't worked hard for everything she has, I'm not saying she's plainly lucky, but well, she was born with the opportunity of attending one of these great Universities, and I'm always proud and inspired by the way she never, ever, gives for granted what she has.
Reading through her entries, I fell in love with Yale. And I did some research and while I know I can't afford Yale University, and how complicated it would be since I have everything for my college all ready planned and all, I thought, why not a summer experience?
It's not that in-affordable (does this word even exist?), and If I work next year, sell some paintings or whatever, I could contribute for that! So I'm adding "Summer 2009 Yale Creative Writing" to my dream list. And I have decided that I'm going to work very hard this whole year to make it possible. Well, there's still to be seen what life's got for me this next year...maybe there are some other things in store, but this is something I would really like to do, so let's do it.

Changing the subject completely, one of the most useful things ever, is Google Reader, just type google reader in google search bar and ta-da! The quickest way to keep up with everything you want.

I know this isn't Treasure Cove, but I still have some things for you:
On personal style - Fanatique
Very, very good piece.
Edit, add, appreciate!
Thanks Gala, definitely one of my weekly resolutions too.
ABeautifulLie.org
Talking about Global Warming...
Please do read Jared's Manifesto, found in The Story section.
I'm inspired, really.

And these are my Weekly Resolutions:
  1. Drink lots and lots and lots of water.
I drank less than two l. everyday last week, and I'm still a little dehydrated because of spring break. My poor skin!
  2. Apply the Edit, add, appreciate thing (above)
  3. Finish with my room...but continue with the bathroom.
And there a few other things I'd like to do this week like paint a little, because I have to started painting I've been seriously and alarmingly neglecting; make a possible to-do list and actually cross out stuff I've done! Facial, done. Buying the medicine I need. Done. Dentist. Wait what?
No, seriously. I have a few appointments I need to make, including a free massage I have. Can you believe I've never had a massage before? No wonder I'm a stressed person.

Oh, and I'm desperate need for music! I've been listening to the same On-The-Go playlist all week long, and I'm fed-up on the same music. Any suggestions?

Have a wonderful week!
I know you'll all go out of your minds with all the amazing things life has for you this week.

Spotted: Gossip Girl stars in Long Island.
Check it out!

I just found this and I think I'm having a heart-attack.
It does seem like they're re-doing the Breakfast at Tiffany's scene. The trenchcoats, B's hair, the rain...I adore Breakfast at Tiffany's. I can't wait to see this episode!

Treasure Cove - March 30th

Hello, beauitfuls!

Is it Sunday already? Well, times goes quite fast.
Holidays are almost over. I start classes on Tuesday. Back to reality, homeworks, students council stuff...as much as I would like to get back to my daily exercise routine, I don't really want to go school for two reasons:

First, because I'm tired of it. I just don't have any subjects I really like, and I think most of my professors have been slacking a little lately. Maybe it's all because I'm so thrilled about going to art school and about studying and learning things I actually like and enjoy. I can't wait to go!
But on the other hand, the other reason I don't want to go back it's because it's gonna be officially the beginning of the end. Clock's ticking...and this semester has passed away so fast, and so will this two months left. And then it's graduation. High school's over and it's time for all of us part away. I've known most of my friends since kindergarten or at least for more than a couple years, and we're a all going to different cities, two of my best friends to Canada for a year, other to travel around Europe, and even when some if us will coincide in the cities we're going, it's not gonna be the same. Still I know I will remain forever close with most of them.

It's going to be weird running the blog in school days, because I started this blog not quite long ago, and I've been working on it during holidays. But it's not going to be hard.

Now, I found some interesting this week...
  1. Red Leather Diary.
Reclaiming a life through the pages of a lost journal, this journal, rescued by New York Time's young writer, was more than half a century forgotten in a dumpster. It brings back to life the glamorous story of an extraordinary, high-class young woman. For five years, not a day is missed.
Horseback riding around Central Park, trips to Paris, London, Rome; art, dances, tea at Scharfft's and toasts at El Morocco, displaying the old New York's glamour.
I think this book/journal would be an amazing read, and would truly show us how girls were back then.
    Talking about Mary Poppins.
I can't wait to get this book.
  2. Artist's block?
Here's some inspiration, or more like 50 pages of it.
    Got it from Gala's Carousel.
  3. Calling all aspiring Jackson Pollocks!
Now you can create your own masterpiece.
Click here for a good, solid dose of stress relief.
  4. 8 keys to instant charisma.
Great piece. Something we should all know and learn.
  5. Chair Couture.
I love chairs. Don't ask why, I simply do.
    Go see for yourself.
  6. What Puma & Adidas have to do with the Nazis.
    Quite very interesting.
I hope you had an amazing week, and please do enjoy your Sunday leisure with these links I give you.
Now I go to eat some lunch.

Just a spoonful of sugar.

Role Model: noun
Someone worthy of imitation.

dictionary.com

Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way. A perfect role model, isn't she?
She's everything the word "ladylike" describes.

She's proper, and well mannered. She's got a "cheery disposition", she's "kindy & witty", and is "never crossed".

I think there's quite a lot to learn from her.
So I took the features and values that make Mary Poppins so special and practically perfect in every way, things every girl should have and learn, things that remain that have always been and forever will be, but trying to apply them to out contemporary lives.
I took these characteristics out of Jane & Michael's advertisement.
You can read the whole transcript
here.

A "cheery" disposition.

A smile can open a thousand doors. Being cheery and kind to people can truly make a difference. People feel the difference. How do you feel when someone makes a grimace to you? And when someone's cheery and smiles?

Be positive.
Even when it's about doing boring and fastidious chores, stuff we don't wanna do, being positive turns the whole situation upside down. Let's say you have to wash the dishes. You have to do it. Stop thinking about what would you do if you didn't have to, and stop wasting time and energy complaining. You could be halfway finished by the time you realize complaining is not going to get you anywhere.
Turn things around. Make it more fun. Put some music on, or challenge yourself on doing something, or how to do it.
Always remember: "Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go down..."

Be kind and witty.

Yes, be kind a witty.
Take an interest on learning things. Develop your mind. It doesn't have to be maths and physics, but try to enhance your mind by reading or learning interesting things. Whatever you like, fashion, history, famous quotes, gardening, cupcakes, or just random stuff.
And be kind. As great as you might be (and I know you all are), as smart, as beautiful, and talented...always be kind to others. There's nothing worse than snotty people, who make other people less just to feel and appear more. I think that's one of the worst kinds of people. It shows a tremendous lack of self-esteem and security.
But I know none of you are like that. You are all very kind, and share what they know with others, and offer their help when they can.

Never be cross or cruel.
This is a hard one. Never be cross. It's quite challengning! You know, I get stressed and cross easily, and it's one of my purposes to change that. People doesn't forget about you being cross, and by saying cross I mean being ill-humored, snappy, tempered, which usually come
from being stress, and you can create a reputation for being grumpy, which I think, is not very ladylike. Nor very nice. There's a difference on being headstrong, and determined and being stubborn to the point of getting angry and cross.
If you are cross, well then, take a deep breath. Be proactive. You can't change the situation, but you can change how you react. If you're all stressed out and grumpy and someone says something to you that just makes you explode, press pause! Don't be snappy or cruel.
Just ignore it. You'll see you feel so much better, and you'll feel good with yourself for controlling your impulse

Be sweet and pretty.
One of a girl's most charming features is being sweet. Girls who swear and act so boyish like are not very nice to see. Unfortunately, we see a lot of this these days. And I'm not gonna lie to you, I swear sometimes, I do. But there's swearing occasionally and there's being a complete potty mouth.
Girls are supposed to be sweet and charming, well-mannered. And this doesn't mean that women shouldn't stand for themselves and be independent, it's a matter of being both, of course!
I mean, what use would it have to be so prepared when you are ill-mannered, absolutely not diplomatic, and are rude and impolite? You wouldn't get very far
would you?
Now, about being pretty, if there's something we remember of Mary Poppins is she's always impeccably dressed, with beautiful attires always so classic, proper and elegant.
Her hair always flawless, perfect rosy cheeks and lips. Under-dressed is not a word in Mary's vocabulary.

I even searched for some style ideas and products to dress a la Mary Poppins.

Obvious color scheme: white, blue and black with the red scarf.
It's easy.
A white blouse or shirt, extra points if it has ruffles and cute buttons. A dark cerulean blue, or a bright navy blue skirt. Above I chose high-waisted skirts because those are the ones I consider would be more appropriate, but feel free to choose!
You can go with white tights, sheer or with patterns, or black too. But I think white would look better...
mais oui!
To keep this outfit to being just an outfit and truly transforming it into Mary Poppin's style, the red scarf is essential, next to the black coat.
A pair of oxfords of course...b&w, or just black. And oh, please, don't forget to stand with your feet open, almost like a ballerina, just like she did.
Now, accessories. White gloves or wristlets. If you're going
sans gloves, use a pretty ring. I chose a red rose ring because she has a red flower in her hat. Talking about the hat...this is the only part I consider a little complicated, so instead I whose a black headband with a bow. You could get away with it with just a ribbon or something. A red or black ribbon.
Also, in some part of the movie she's wearing a red bow tie, so I put it there too. I think I'd look
tres cute.

Mary Poppin's make-up is quite
au naturel. But the rosy cheeks are of highly importance! And rosy lips too. They're always cute and elegant.
Besides, just a little dab of color in your lips will help keep you from looking under-dressed.

Finally, two very important things.
Mary's Umbrella, and her "magical" satchel/bag. A girl has to always be prepared.
Pick a bag spacey enough to carry all your trinkets.
I'm famous for always carrying wide bags and lot's of stuff. I always have a pen when needed, my stain remover Tide marker, make-up, a little mirror, and my sketchbook and pencil. You never know when inspiration will strike.

Something extra I want to add about Mary Poppins is that she never, ever gives explanations.
While sometimes we have to, I think this is something very admirable.
Yesterday while reading Miss Couturable
, I thought all of this. Miss Couturable has been getting a few comments about her blog and the way she writes about certain stuff.
If there's something I love about Miss Couturable is that she's not afraid to show who she truly is. She is who she is (you can find my comment there). And that's something we all love from Mary Poppins. She was who she was. My mom always tells me that not giving explanations in vain is something she learned from watching Mary Poppins when she was young.
I told Miss Couturable so, and so did other fellow readers.
Don't give explanations you don't have to give. Don't make excuses for yourself. We tend to this a lot, and most of the times we're repeating unnecessary explanations, explanations we didn't have to do in the first time. We are who we are, and we do what we do because we have our own reasons. What third parties have to say about it, we don't care.

Mary Poppins certainly is a figure that represents a lot of things and values from the past. But they are those values that are still right here. Unfortunately, they are getting lost now. The word ladylike is not what is used to be. We don't find most of these things in girls nowadays. And these are things every girl should have, learn, and develop, adapted of course to our contemporary lives.
Call me old-fashioned, but I think the world
ladylike is something universal, that should remain forever.
And Mary Poppins is proof of that.

There's only one thing left to say:
Supercallifragilisticexpialidocious!

Things I Love Thursday

Bonjour! Or shall I say good night?
It's 2:41 a.m. for me so perhaps I should.
But that means it's officially Thursday, time for Things I Love Thursday!
Things I Love Thursday is a list, being it small, big or huge, of the things you've been loving these days, or what's making you happy.
This is a tradition created by the always brilliant Gala Darling (who I seem to have mentioned in almost every post!) and it has been adopted by lots of nonpareils like myself to follow in our own blogs and our daily lives.

Something I've learned from Gala is being grateful. We don't really see it, but being grateful makes such a difference. It makes you happy. Life can really change if you appreciate the small things it gives you, it turns everything a whole lot brighter.

There a lot of things people don't see or take for granted, and they are truly special things. A beautiful sunset, a midnight phone call, laughing with a friends, a coincidence, or life itself.refore we're focusing on them so we're happy.
Things I Love Thursday is wonderful tradition and it's worth making a habit. As grateful as we can be, it's good to have a special day to write it all down so we won't give anything for granted, and it's also nice to share with people what's making us happy and what we love. It shows a great deal about the other person.

This is what I'm Loving this week:

By being grateful we're highlighting the good things in life and the
  1. The Twilight Tales.
I love the fact this girl has a whole blog about fairies and fairytales and I love the fact that it was all inspired by the twilight.
I love fairytales, we all grew up with them, and in this imagination-starved world, it's good to know all those magical stories are not so forgotten.

  2. Holidays with my friends in the beach, taking lots and lots of pictures and having so much fun together before we all go away for college.

  3. Keira Knightley's green dress in Atonement (I'm posting the same picture because I love this shoot. It's the perfect light for the dress)
Indescribably beautiful and elegant. So 1930 - 1940's, and the perfect shade of green.

  4. Mika. He's really had me singing the whole week. My moment's obsession are Lollipop and Relax, take it easy.

  5. I'm officially enrolled on the College I wanted, so I'm officially going into the visual arts career I have always dreamed of. I'm immensely happy.

  6. Cleaning & order.
Since I'm now officially going away, there's a pile of stuff I need to get rid off to see what I've got and what I need to buy. Same with my wardrobe. There are so many clothes I don't really use and there's a lot of things I need, like, basic things.
I'm also very excited of the idea of a new house, and a new room decorate freely. I already have stash of pictures and ideas for that purpose. But I have decided I will become more ordered, so I've also started searching for pictures in Flickr to get some inspiration for my future studio or work area, to keep all my materials organized and a neat & inviting working zone. Gracious! I'm so excited.
    Here are some examples...

What's kept your heart swooning this week?
I hope a bucketful of things. Now go and love your days away!
